El Monte is a Chilean city and commune in Talagante Province, Santiago Metropolitan Region. As of 2007, it had a population of 29,568. El Monte can be found on the north bank of the Mapocho River in the Chilean Central Valley approximately 55 km (34 mi) southwest of the metropolitan area of Santiago. The commune spans an area of 118.1 km2 (46 sq mi). According to 2002 census of the National Statistics Institute, El Monte spans an area of 118.1 km2 (46 sq mi) and had 26,459 inhabitants (13,334 men and 13,125 women).
